Introduction

Bandi Chhor Divas is one of the most inspiring festivals in Sikh history. In 2025, it will be celebrated on 20th October, coinciding with Diwali. This day is not just about lights—it is about freedom, justice, and compassion.
History

The festival dates back to Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Sikh Guru. Imprisoned at Gwalior Fort by Mughal emperor Jahangir, Guru Ji refused to leave until 52 Hindu kings jailed with him were also freed.
A special cloak with 52 tassels was stitched so each king could walk out with him. This heroic act is remembered as Bandi Chhor Divas – the Day of Liberation.
Celebrations
Gurdwaras glow with lamps and candles.
Akhand Paath, Kirtan, and Ardaas fill the air with devotion.
Langar is served to all, symbolizing equality.
At the Golden Temple, fireworks and shimmering lights create breathtaking views.
Significance
Bandi-Chhor Divas teaches us that real light is not just diyas, but removing darkness of injustice and selfishness. True leadership means freedom and compassion for all.
Conclusion

This 20th October, let’s honor Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s courage and celebrate Bandi Chhor Divas with hope, unity, and light in our homes and hearts.
