India have taken a strong position in the opening Test against Sri Lanka after producing an impressive batting performance in their first innings.

India posted a huge 462 runs, with Devdutt Padikkal leading the way with 167 runs, while KL Rahul scored 82 and Dhruv Jurel contributed 51 runs. For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya took 4 wickets, Keshara Nuwanth claimed 3, and Asitha Fernando picked up 2 wickets.
In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284 runs. Sonak Dinusha scored a century with 100 runs, while Niroshan Dickwella made 80, helping Sri Lanka reach a respectable total. However, India’s bowling attack kept the pressure on, with Manav Suthar taking 4 wickets and Ravindra Jadeja claiming 3 wickets, restricting Sri Lanka to a 178-run deficit.

India then came out to bat in the second innings but were bowled out for 193 runs. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 66, followed by Devdutt Padikkal with 44 and KL Rahul with 35. Sri Lanka’s bowlers fought back strongly, with Asitha Fernando taking 4 wickets, Prabath Jayasuriya 3 wickets and Lahiru Kumara 2 wickets.
With India setting a target of 372 runs, Sri Lanka now needs 372 runs to win the Test, while India need 10 wickets to secure victory.

The match is now heading towards an exciting finish. India will be looking to make early breakthroughs with the ball and complete a win in the first Test, while Sri Lanka will hope to produce a strong batting performance and chase down the challenging target.
India will be aiming to begin the series with a victory, while Sri Lanka will face a tough challenge in the final innings.
