Manmohan Singh’s Demise

Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, passed away in Delhi on Thursday at the age of 93 after a long illness. He was admitted to AIIMS Delhi after his health worsened. Singh had retired from the Rajya Sabha in April 2024 and stayed away from politics due to health issues. His last public appearance was in January 2024 at his daughter’s book launch.

Key Achievements as Leader

Manmohan Singh was the driving force behind India’s 1991 economic reforms as Finance Minister, which transformed the country’s economy. He served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leading India through rapid economic growth. His government introduced major reforms like MGNREGA, the Right to Information Act, and the historic Indo-US Civil Nuclear Agreement.

Early Life and Career

Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah, Punjab (now in Pakistan), Singh migrated to India after Partition. A brilliant economist, he worked as a professor and held key roles like Chief Economic Advisor and RBI Governor before entering politics.

His contributions to India’s economy and governance remain unforgettable.
