The Mona Lisa painting was painted in the year 1503 by an Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. He was not only an artist but an engineer, scientist, sculptor ,architect and a theorist. He had knowledge of many subjects, be it painting ,cartography, astronomy, anatomy, hydrology , geology ,optics or even paleontology.
A whole new article can be written on his achievements so without further ado let’s get to Mona Lisa. The world’s most famous painting by him. But who was this lady in the painting? People have always been curious about the identity of the women in the painting. The first revelation about this was made by an Italian artist named giorgio vasari; who wrote the autobiography of Leonardo da Vinci in 1550 according to him this woman was Lisa Gherardini. She was married to a silk trader who lived in Florence. Francesso giocondo.
He believe that Francesso had commissioned this painting for his wife and this is the origin of the paintings two names the first- which we all know Mona Lisa it means madam Lisa and the second name La giocondo because after marriage Lisa Gherardani had become Lisa giocondo but even after vasaris revelation people wear not ready to agree and many new theories came into life such as la vinci had made a self portrait.

Conservators at the Museo del Prado in Madrid recently discovered that this copy of the Mona Lisa was painted by a pupil working alongside Leonardo da Vinci.
WHY PAINTING IS SO SPECIAL?
The painting is so special because it has not been painted on paper, Canvas or cloth. It is painted on poplar wood. The size of the picture isn’t very large. It is just 77 CM by 53 CM but even after this it is very famous because back in the day in Italy it was the first painting to focus on humans so closely. The smile of Mona Lisa is so special that when you focus only on her smile she seems very serious but when you look at her eyes or her forehead she looks more smiling.
Da Vinci spent many nights in a hospital in Florence where he had used to go and remove the skin of dead bodies to study the facial muscles and nerves and how they work to create that smile. He had also studied the face of horses and pointed out the similarities between the face of a horse and humans. To this day Mona Lisa painting is kept in the Louvre museum in a bullet proof class with a strict climate control where the humidity is maintained at 50% + /- 10% and temperature is always maintained at 18° Celsius to 21°Celsius.
All these elements of the painting makes it so special.
