Adah Sharma film eyes second biggest hit of the year spot, earns Rs 136 crore.
Adah Sharma-starrer The Kerala Story is a box office hit. The Sudipto Sen directorial had already crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark, and actually earned more on its second Sunday — an expected Rs 23 crore — than it did on the first one, a considerable feat for a film.
THE SUPREME Court on Friday questioned the Mamata Banerjee
government over its ban on the film ‘The Kerala Story’ and asked why West Bengal should ban it “if it can run in peace in other parts of the country”.
A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha also asked the M K Stalin government in Tamil Nadu, where the filmmakers alleged there is a de facto ban on its screening, what administrative arrangements had been made to ensure its smooth running.
Banning ‘THE KERALA STORY’ Serves No Purpose.
“The film has been released in the rest of the country. West Bengal is no different from any other part of the country. If it can run in peace in other parts of the country, why should West Bengal ban the film,” the CJI asked as Senior Advocate A M Singhvi, appearing for the state, tried to defend the ban decision.
But the CJI said, “We would like to know from you what are the specific administrative arrangements made by you to ensure the screening. Because to my mind the state government cannot say look the other way when people attack theatres, burn chairs.” He said the state is duty-bound to ensure that conditions are peaceful.Issuing the notices to the two states, the Bench said it will take up the matter next on
