Laurene Powell Jobs Visits Mahakumbh in Prayagraj

Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, is in India to attend the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. During her visit, the Niranjani Akhara gave her the Hindu name “Kamala,” according to Kailashanand Giri Maharaj, a prominent seer of the Akhara.

Visit to Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Powell and Kailashanand Giri Maharaj also visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. While following temple traditions, she offered prayers from a designated area as non-Hindus cannot touch the Shivling.

Named Kamala by the Akhara
Speaking about the naming ceremony, Kailashanand Giri Maharaj said, “She is visiting her guru and is like a daughter to us. This is her second trip to India.”

Possible Inclusion in Akhara’s Procession
The Maharaj mentioned the possibility of Powell joining the Akhara’s Peshwai (saints’ procession). “It’s her choice. She will explore the Kumbh and meet seers. It’s wonderful to see her interest in our traditions,” he said.
