The Sports Ministry has announced that four athletes will receive the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award on January 17.
Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and world chess champion D Gukesh are among the honorees. Manu’s name was initially missing from the list of nominees but has now been included.
Harmanpreet Singh and Praveen Kumar to Be Honored
Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Paralympic high jumper Praveen Kumar will also receive the Khel Ratna Award. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi during a special ceremony.
Government Finalizes Recipients After Scrutiny
The government finalized the list of awardees after a committee’s recommendations and a detailed review process. The Sports Ministry stated, “The Government has decided to confer awards upon the following sportspersons, coaches, universities, and entities.”
Ceremony to Celebrate Excellence in Sports
The awards ceremony will also honor 32 athletes with the Arjuna Award for their outstanding performances.
In addition, three coaches will receive the Dhronacharya Award for their exceptional contributions to sports coaching.
The event will celebrate the hard work and achievements of India’s sporting talents.
