What is Split Personality Syndrome?

Split Personality Syndrome, also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), is a mental condition where a person has two or more distinct identities or personalities. Each personality may have its own name, behavior, and way of thinking. People with DID often experience memory gaps and confusion about their actions.

Causes and Symptoms

DID usually develops due to severe trauma or abuse during childhood. The mind creates different identities as a defense mechanism to cope with distressing experiences. Common symptoms include sudden personality shifts, memory loss, mood swings, and difficulty recognizing oneself.

Treatment and Management

Doctors treat DID through therapy, counseling, and sometimes medication for related issues like anxiety or depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused therapy help individuals integrate their identities and manage their emotions better. With the right support, people with DID can lead stable and fulfilling lives.
