The Maha Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious gathering, officially began in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 13, 2025. Millions of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam for the first Shahi Snan (royal bath) on the holy day of Paush Purnima.

Millions Participate on the First Day
By 8 a.m. on the first day, more than 40 lakh people had taken a dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. This year’s Maha Kumbh is happening after 144 years, making it a historic and spiritual event.

Huge Turnout Expected Over 45 Days
Over the next 45 days, more than 450 million (45 crore) devotees are expected to visit the Kumbh. This includes 1.5 million (15 lakh) foreign tourists. Clearly, the Maha Kumbh has become a global attraction, drawing people from various cultures and backgrounds.

Blending Tradition with Technology
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the efforts taken to ensure the event runs smoothly. He stated that this year’s focus is on maintaining cleanliness, providing security, and introducing a “digital Kumbh.” Furthermore, he described the event as a proud moment for Sanatan culture and a perfect symbol of unity in diversity.

Prime Minister Modi’s Wishes to Devotees
Lastly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt wishes to all devotees. He referred to the Maha Kumbh as a sacred confluence of faith, devotion, and Indian culture, highlighting its importance to the nation and the world.
