Early Life
He was born in 1987, West Bengal, India. He is regarded one of the most versatile and successful singers in the history of Indian Music. He has the quality of healing and soothing the soul of people. He is known for being shy and often stays always from limelight despite the fame and popularity. His inclination towards music led his parents to decide on training him professionally.
Beginning
Singh’s musical career begun when his guru Rajendra Prasad Marjari who insisted him to leave his hometown and participate in the reality how Fame Gurukul at the age of 18, where Shankar Mahadevan headed the Jury panel. Though he lost the finals, he soon entered another reality show “10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil” and was declared the winner. He has spent a part of his early musical carrier as a Music Programmer and Music producer to music composers music directors like Shankar-Ehsann Loy, Vishal-Sekhar, Mithoon and Pritam.
Bollywood Debut
Singh made his Bollywood debut with Mithoon composition “Phir Mohabbat” from Murder 2 and later “Raabta” from Agent Vinod. He also lent his voice for 1920 Evil Returns song “Uska Hi Banna” and for “Dua” from Shanghai and latter fetched Mirchi Music Award for Upcoming Male Playback Singer award.
Recognition
In 2013 he got the recognition with the release of the song “Tum Hi Ho” from the movie Aashiqui 2. He worked with Jeet Gangulli for the rest of the songs. Singh considered the period as a “lean phase” which helped him in becoming a better Musician.
Awards
Singh has received a Mirchi Music Award, 3 Filmfare Awards, a Stardust Award, an IIFA Award, 2 ZEE CINE Awards and 2 SCREEN Awards. He won nine out of of ten Best Song nominations for the song “Tum Hi Ho” from Aashiqui 2. He received couple of nominations under Male Playback Singer category for “Channa Mereya” and “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil film in various award ceremonies in late 2016 and 2017.
